Newsgroup for German localization

Mac OS X system address book integration

Yay! It’s so amazing. I really cannot believe it that the first part of the system address book integration is done. Bug 203927 which handles reading from the system address book and exists since April 2003 has been fixed by David yesterday. So the new awesome feature is now available with todays nightly builds of Thunderbird and SeaMonkey. It’s not fully stable but you can step through all your addresses within the address book. Major Upgrade von Firefox 1.5 auf 2.0

Seit der Veröffentlichung von Firefox 2.0 sind bereits etliche Monate vergangen. Benutzer von Firefox 1.5.0.x mussten jedoch immer noch auf das automatische Update auf die neue Hauptversion warten. Einzige Alternative, um die Version 2.0 zu nutzen, war eine manuelle Installation. Doch das Warten hat jetzt ein Ende. Seit zwei Tagen wird jetzt in Schritten zu 20-30 Updates/Sekunde allen Firefox 1.5.0.x Benutzern das Upgrade auf die Version 2.0.0.4 angeboten. Sie erhalten somit gleich das neueste Sicherheitsrelease. Letztendlich konnte ich somit bug 367234 schließen. Sollten widererwarten Fehler auftreten, dann meldet Euch bitte.

Mozilla Thunderbird 2

Mozilla wird in den nächsten Stunden offiziell den neuen Thunderbird 2 veröffentlichen. Momentan werden noch die letzten Bugs auf den Webseiten behoben und die Spiegelserver haben Zeit, die Downloadpakete zu synchronisieren. Aber dann ist es soweit. Die Arbeit von einem Jahr und drei Monaten seit der Veröffentlichung von Thunderbird 1.5 hat sich gelohnt. Es sind jede Menge neuer Funktionen enthalten und etliche Bugs gefixed. Alle Änderungen sind in den Versionshinweisen zu lesen.

Temporäre Dateien bei Firefox und Thunderbird

Als langjähriger Benutzer von Windows und Linux war es mir bisher immer klar, dass temporäre Dateien logischerweise im eingestellten Temp-Ordner abgelegt und nach dem Beenden des Programmes auch gelöscht werden. Benutzer von Mac OS scheinen hier jedoch ein sehr seltsames Volk zu sein. Nach Aussagen einiger Personen sind sie nicht gewollt, temporär heruntergeladene Dateien automatisch löschen zu lassen. Die Dateien landen also im eingestellten Downloadverzeichnis und warten auf ihr manuelles löschen.
