New photoblog online

Starting from today my website has its own photoblog. After month of inactivity in updating my gallery with new pictures I decided to have a better and more comfortable way of publishing. Mac OS X system address book integration

Yay! It’s so amazing. I really cannot believe it that the first part of the system address book integration is done. Bug 203927 which handles reading from the system address book and exists since April 2003 has been fixed by David yesterday. So the new awesome feature is now available with todays nightly builds of Thunderbird and SeaMonkey. It’s not fully stable but you can step through all your addresses within the address book. Major Upgrade von Firefox 1.5 auf 2.0

Seit der Veröffentlichung von Firefox 2.0 sind bereits etliche Monate vergangen. Benutzer von Firefox 1.5.0.x mussten jedoch immer noch auf das automatische Update auf die neue Hauptversion warten. Einzige Alternative, um die Version 2.0 zu nutzen, war eine manuelle Installation. Doch das Warten hat jetzt ein Ende. Seit zwei Tagen wird jetzt in Schritten zu 20-30 Updates/Sekunde allen Firefox 1.5.0.x Benutzern das Upgrade auf die Version 2.0.0.4 angeboten. Sie erhalten somit gleich das neueste Sicherheitsrelease. Letztendlich konnte ich somit bug 367234 schließen. Sollten widererwarten Fehler auftreten, dann meldet Euch bitte.

Wer ist denn bitte schön ExtraArt? Nun, vor drei Stunden hätte ich auch noch keine Antwort auf diese Frage geben können. Jetzt bin ich jedoch von dem Können dieser beiden Künstler begeistert. Bernd Schwarte und Fabian Flender, die hinter ExtraArt stecken, begeisterten beim diesjährigen Tempelfest das gesamte Publikum – egal ob jung oder alt, keiner konnte die eigenen Augen von der Bühne losreißen. Eine Mischung aus Clownerie, irrwitziger Akrobatik und Jonglage gemischt mit abstrusen Mimiken sorgten für ständige Lachsalven. LVM und Xen unter Ubuntu 7.04

Der erste Gedanke, warum die Kombination von LVM und Xen für einen Desktop-Rechner interessant sein kann, erschließt sich zu Beginn nicht gleich. Denn wer benötigt schon einen Logical Volume Manager, der einem dynamische Partitionen zur Verfügung stellt und eine Software zur Virtualisierung weiterer Betriebssysteme? Doch wird deren Einsatz genauer betrachtet, kann man selbst reichlich davon profitieren. Warum ich mich selbst dafür entschieden habe und wie die Installation und Konfiguration durchzuführen ist, soll der folgende Artikel etwas näher darstellen.

Total Commander 7.0 erschienen

Seit gestern ist der neue Total Commander 7.0 für Windows nun offiziell freigegeben. Nach der Installation fällt sofort die überarbeitete Benutzeroberfläche auf. Flache Schaltflächen und diverse neue Icons werten endlich die Optik auf. Aber auch sonst hat sich einiges getan, denn diverse neue Funktionen wurden integriert – ein Upgrade, das sich wirklich lohnt!

Aktivierung von Filefault (oder auch nicht)

Wer gewisse Sicherheitsvorkehrungen nicht sofort nach der Installation von Mac OS X durchführt, hat später erstmal das Nachsehen. Je nachdem wie schnell sich die Platte füllt, bleibt weniger Platz für temporäre Dateien übrig, die wohl bei der Aktivierung von Filefault anfallen. Gestern hatte ich eigentlich vor, Filefault für mein Privat-Ordner zu aktivieren. Weit kam ich jedoch nicht. Die Software verkündete mir stolz: Liebe Herren von Apple, die Festplatte meines MacBooks hat gerade mal eine Größe von 120GB.
